What We Learned at SEPA 2026 About the Future of Modern Dentistry

Modern dentistry is evolving quickly.

This week, we attended the SEPA 2026 conference in Granada, one of Spain’s leading dental congresses focused on periodontology, implantology, digital dentistry, and the future of patient care.

One thing became very clear throughout the conference:

The future of dentistry is not just about better clinical treatments. It is also about improving the patient experience, integrating smarter digital workflows, and creating clinics that feel more transparent, calm, and human.

At Clínica Dental Raíces in Tenerife, many of the ideas discussed at SEPA 2026 strongly reflected the philosophy we have tried to build the clinic around from day one.

1. Patient Experience Is Becoming Just as Important as Clinical Outcomes

Traditionally, dental clinics focused primarily on treatment itself.

Today, the best clinics are also focusing heavily on:

communication,
transparency,
trust,
operational design,
and reducing patient anxiety.

This was one of the biggest themes we noticed throughout the conference.

For many patients, visiting the dentist can still feel stressful or intimidating. That is why, when building Clínica Dental Raíces, we wanted to create an environment that feels calm, modern, welcoming, and easy to navigate.

Patient experience is not just about aesthetics. It includes:

how clearly treatment is explained,
how comfortable patients feel,
how smoothly appointments run,
and how much trust is built throughout the process.

We believe dentistry should feel more personal, transparent, and patient-centered. That is why at our clinic we created a comfortable environment where patients can relax and enjoy a hot or cool beverage, watch Netflix during treatment, use noise cancelling headphones to block out noise or listen to music or a film or series. We also of course have anaesthetic and even stressballs and sleep masks and blankets for thos that really want to relax! We do have aircon too as it can get hot in the summer!

2. Digital Dentistry Is No Longer “The Future”

Another major takeaway from SEPA 2026 was how quickly digital workflows are becoming the standard across modern dentistry.

Guided implant surgery, intraoral scanning, digital treatment planning, and integrated workflows were everywhere throughout the conference.

At Clínica Dental Raíces, this was something we believed in from the beginning.

Digital dentistry can improve:

precision,
predictability,
treatment planning,
communication,
and the overall patient experience.

For example, digital workflows can help patients better understand their treatment by allowing them to visualize procedures and outcomes more clearly before treatment even begins.

Technologies such as:

intraoral scanners,
3D imaging,
digital implant planning,
and 3D guided surgery

are helping make treatments more efficient, more accurate, and often less stressful for patients.

3. AI and Automation Are Starting to Reshape Smaller Clinics Too

One of the most interesting parts of the conference was seeing how AI and automation are no longer limited to large healthcare groups or corporate dental chains.

Smaller clinics are increasingly using technology to improve efficiency and patient communication.

With our Cofounder Aidan coming from backgrounds in product, marketing, and technology, this was something that strongly resonated with us.

At Clínica Dental Raíces, we have integrated AI and automation where it genuinely improves the patient experience and clinic operations.

The goal is not to replace human interaction.
